KOMPAS.com-Akamai Technologies,
network provider based in the United States released the report "State
of the Internet" that exposes countries which have the fastest internet
connection speed.
From
the report revealed East Asian countries which subscribed to the top
"royal" of bandwidth, such as South Korea, Japan, and Hong Kong, is
still in the three countries with the world's fastest internet
connection.
South Korea is still the country with the fastest average connection around the world on 4th quarter of 2012. The average internet speed in the "K-Pop" reached 14 Megabits per second.
Even so, the average internet speed in South Korea is actually having a bit of a downturn. When compared to Q3 2011, the average internet speed in South Korea declined 4.8 percent.
When compared to the same quarter in 2011, internet speed in South Korea has dropped far enough, which is about 13 percent.
Mere information, a unit of internet speeds listed in the report are Akamai Mb (M in capital letter and small letter b). It represents a unit of Megabits. If want to convert to a unit of MB (two capital letters) or megabytes, Megabits must be divided numbers in 8 first. So, the average internet speed in South Korea is 14 megabits per second or 1.75 Megabytes per second.
Japan, which recently released the fastest internet connection service in the world, is ranked second in the Akamai report. The
average internet speed in the country is a 10.8 Mb per second, an
increase of 3.4 percent from the previous quarter and 19 percent from
the same quarter in 2011.
Google
Fiber is the new applied in Kansas City, United States, is one of the
world's terkencang internet network with speeds of 1 Gbps.
Well,
the record was just broken by an internet provider from Japan, So-net,
Sony's electronics giant corporations branch, which offers fiber optic
internet service, recently named "Nuro" for residents of Tokyo, Japan.
Its Velocity? 2 Gbps or doubled Google Fiber. The So-net internet connection claiming this is the fastest in the world.
Nuro-capable
Gigabit network using Passive Optical Network (GPON) Japan are
reportedly able to reach speeds of 2,488 Gbps downstream.
That is not less interesting is its price. So-net only with a monthly fee of 50 US dollars or around Rp 490.000, lower than Google's charge 70 US dollars.
However,
as reported by Tech Spot, there is the cost of installation of 509 US
dollars to be paid before the customers So-net can enjoy superb
connection speed.
The
possibility of the cost required to install fiber optic cable to home
customers who have not been covered by So-net network. In contrast, Google's Fiber customers do not need to bear the cost because it is already covered by Google.
So-net also requires a two-year contract, two times longer than the one year contract is required.
Tokyo alone is a suitable place to build fibre-based internet connections. Here, about 25 percent of households have cable internet connection using glass fiber.
Quoted from Tech Crunch, Thursday (25/4/2013), Hong Kong is ranked the third in the report. However, the average speed in the country is not able to penetrate the 10 Mb per second. Hong
Kong was only able to bring the speed internet 9.3 Mb per second, an
increase of 3.4 percent from the previous quarter and 5.4 percent in the
previous year.
